The Lover” (Arabic: العاشق) by Ghassan Kanafani is a collection of three incomplete novels published posthumously in 1987. This compilation is significant as it was published after Kanafani’s assassination and appeared in the Palestinian magazine ‘Shu’oon’. Despite the novels being incomplete, they are considered important in Kanafani’s body of work, particularly for their exploration of Palestinian resistance, which differs from his other works. The collection includes the novels “The Lover” or “Al-Ashiq,” “The Plums of April” or “Barquq Nisan,” and “The Deaf and The Blind” or “Al-Atrash Wal A’ma.” These novels use symbolism and vivid descriptions to frame the events of the narrative. Despite their unfinished nature, critics have found value in their open-endedness, which they believe adds to their literary worth and underscores Kanafani’s influence in resistance literature.
